Luxury Design Hotel
A London literary haunt for more than a century, Café Royal has entertained names like Oscar Wilde, Rudyard Kipling, W B Yeats and Brigitte Bardot to its glorified address on Regent Street. In 2008 the property was acquired by The Set and embarked on an ambitious reconstruction and design overhaul that now includes a fashionable luxury hotel. A convenient location between Mayfair and Soho offers a pedigree design by David Chipperfield Architects respective of its history of iconic rooms. Spaces like the Grill Room and Domino Room are preserved of their baroque detailing with an infusion of posh modern, muted design. The Bar offers more of a deco-steamer design with artesian cocktails and remnants of Absinthe culture. New Ten Room is also added, a casual all-day brasserie. In house Akasha Wellbeing Center offers indoor lap pool, hammam and yoga sanctuary in addition to a well-equipped fitness center with juice bar.
The Room
Creating a hotel based on the grand history of Café Royal was no easy task, a total of over 150-rooms offering refined details like herringbone wood floors, spare but exquisite white marble bathrooms and contemporary décor that sooths the eyes instead of distracting. The hotel’s owners, The Set, specialize in historic design properties like Amsterdam’s Conservatorium and Lutetia Hotel in Paris. Upgraded rooms feature double-door windows with princess balconies of rod iron detailing and extravagantly tall ceilings echoed in beveled architectural walls and plush drapery.
